This will be the third church gdm has designed and the biggest to date. gdm was selected to compete against other architects for this appointment and chosen on the basis of our ideas, presentation and ability to work with the church and their team. The result has been an exciting and rewarding journey. The brief from the client asked for a new church that did not look like a church but must include a large, 400-seat congregation auditorium, teaching rooms, crèche, kitchens, offices, youth facilities and two flats. The design concept solution has the auditorium as its nucleus with the ancillary accommodation located on two of its sides. The main foyer and entrance look towards the main road, with full height glazing allowing the internal activity to be seen from outside and a welcoming view to anyone passing by. A mixture of brickwork, render, facing blockwork and cladding serve to breakdown the building mass to create an interesting and visually inviting building.
