Mote Park Café and Community Centre has been awarded Best Public or Community Building in the South East LABC - Local Authority Building Control Excellence Awards.
The project, which co-incidentally was formally opened this week, offers a robust and flexible community hub that provides a new 50-cover café, multi-use space and toilets including changing places facility.
The LABC Building Excellence Awards focus on the ability for the project team to work together with local building control to delivery technically excellent projects. Mote Park Café is no exception, our close work with Maidstone Borough Council Building Control, contractor Chartway Construction and local consultants including Considine enabled us to deliver a design post planning that met the client’s needs.
This included work to develop a bespoke anti-vandalism system, optimise the layout of the café and ensure the design met BREEAM Very Good. The project has also had a big impact on the community, with 8 jobs being created at the café, local groups benefitting from new multi-use space and the Changing Places facility making the park more accessible to all.
The scheme forms part of a £4m redevelopment of the Mote Park area which aims to futureproof the park for future generations.
We’re delighted that the project has received recognition and look forward to seeing if it can take home another prize at the LABC Grand Finals in January.
